40 Challenges B4 40 – in aid of Myeloma UK

I’ve left this page up as a summary of what I did in advance of my 40th birthday back in 2015. An age I wasn’t sure that I would ever reach when I was diagnosed with myeloma in 2009. Whilst watching the X-factor one night, I suddenly had the idea of doing 40 challenges before I hit 40…40 challenges in my 40th year! Originally, I had wanted to raise  £4,000 (even I had to accept that £40k would be unachievable!!). In the end we raised over £17,000!! With having 2 young kids and a job to manage, we decided the list would be a good mix of some fun things to raise awareness, and some tough things that will make me work hard for the fundraising money. So, Nick and I put together a list of things to achieve in this time! I started on my 39th birthday and we came up with more than 40 challenges just in case one or two become impossible…..although I’m not one to give up – as those of you who know me will know! 40 were achieved in total!

My 40 (+) challenges!

How about finding 40 other myeloma sufferers and inspire them to do 40 things to raise money for the charity? Even if we all raised £1000, supporting each other to do so, there is £40,000,
    I’m in,

Deborah, I absolutely love that idea….I had wanted to do the £40,000 target but knew I could never raise that much…but with 40 people (hopefully all patients (or maybe family members!) like you suggest we could get that total which would be AMAZING!
Thank you for such a great idea! I will try to talk to Myeloma UK to get their backing and their support in setting it up as then we could hopefully make this HUGE!

  8. Hi Deb.
I would love to help you acheive no.36! I’ve been making cards for a couple of years & I already support Myeloma UK as 3 people very close to me have/had Myeloma. I would be delighted to help make the cards for this challenge. I have a couple of die cutting machines and can cut all sorts of shapes! I live locally so maybe we could have a workshop to make them if you could sort out the ‘selling’. If you could let me have an email address I could send you some photos of cards that I’ve made so you could decide if they’re the sort of thing you’d like to make. Good luck with the challenge whatever you decide, Claire
